From My Heart

The Word of God, the Bible, is the most amazing book ever penned.  The amazing thing about the Bible is that it is God's Book!  The Holy Spirit inspired the human authors to write His Word to mankind.  In Psalm 12:6, David wrote, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”

David tells us the words of the Lord are pure words.  One thing that makes them pure is the fact that the Bible is infallible.  In other words, the Bible is accurate.  When the Bible says something happened, you can be assured it happened!

Last Tuesday morning, I received a fax on the church fax machine, that made me laugh.  A lawyer (or so he says) from England said this fellow in London had 15 million dollars in a bank, and his last name was Belcher.  Coincidentally, it has been 9 years since this fellow died, (so I should really hurry) because British law says if none of his relatives claim the money within 10 years, it will go back to the United Kingdom.  But this fellow says if I call him, he will get to work immediately to make sure I get the 15 million.  Now, I was born at night, but not last night!  That is a scam and there is no way I would ever contact the number of this lawyer who is just so anxious to help me get my long-lost relative's (may the good Lord bless his soul) money.   After all, he would certainly want me to have it!   That letter does not contain “pure” words. It is not infallible.  It is not accurate.

The second statement in this verse tells us the Word of God is proven. David said, “Tried in a furnace of earth, purified 7 times.”  There has never been in all of history, a book that has been attacked as much as the Bible.  Yet, every attack upon it only serves to prove the Word of God is God's Holy Word.  There has never been a book anywhere that has been scrutinized as much as the Bible.

There is the proof of archaeology that verifies the accuracy of the Bible.  Every time a shovel turns over the earth in archaeology, it substantiates what the Bible says.  Back in the early 1900's, several British archaeologists went to the Holy Land to see if they could find some Biblical sites.  The Bible says the walls of Jericho fell “in” when Joshua and the Israelites marched around the walls on the seventh day.  Then the Bible says the Israelites burned the city to the ground.  When these men started digging, they found the ruins of Jericho, uncovered the site, and found the walls had indeed fallen in, and there is an ash line all around the site, which shows it was set on fire and burned to the ground.

But the Bible is also proven in application.  You see, those who have tried the Word of God have discovered that it works.  No one who lives their life according to the Bible has any regrets.  But, those who reject God's Word often live a life that ends in terrible regret!

Thank God for the excellency of the Word of God.
