From My Heart
The word “beloved” is frequently used in the Bible. The Apostle John followed the example of the Lord Jesus who used the word “beloved” to define the believer. In I John 4:1, he writes, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
If you break down the word, you have “be” and “loved.” As a Christian, we are divinely loved! For the sake of proper grammar, every believer in Christ is “being loved by God Almighty!” The most familiar verse in the Bible, John 3:16, reveals this fact in the clearest of words. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” What an amazing truth, “We are loved by God.”
Look back one chapter to I John 3:1, and we find another wonderful word, “behold.” When we behold something, the concept is to grasp it and do not let it go! So, what exactly are we to look at and then hold to and not let go? And again, the answer is we are to grasp and hold on to the truth that God the Father loves us! John seems to go the extra mile in this Epistle to encourage us to understand how much we are loved by the Lord.
Verse 1 tells us that right now, today, at this very moment, we are loved like a father loves his child. If you look at v. 2, John goes back to the word, “beloved,” to show us this great love is the gift that keeps on giving. Now, we get the privilege of being a child of God, but one of these days, when the Lord appears, we will be privileged to be changed and made just like Jesus.
So, I think we can assume if God the Father loves us so much that He would call us His sons, and if He is going to send His Son Jesus to come back to take us to Heaven - we certainly must be His “be-loved.” It seems to me that our being loved by God is one of the greatest truths we should grasp onto and never let go! Just to think that the Almighty God of Heaven loves us, even while we were still in our unsaved and sinful condition, even when we did not love Him, even when we wanted nothing to do with Him - that is an absolutely amazing love! That is not the way we love others here on earth! But God’s love is divine! And the amazing thing is that God’s love is unconditional! Oh, if you have not experienced God’s unconditional love, please come to Him today and learn what it means to “be loved.”
If you are visiting with us today, it is a joy to have you with us. If you have any questions about things, just grab anyone and ask your question! If they do not have an answer, they will direct you to someone who will know!
