From My Heart
The Psalmist David tells us in Psalm 12:6-7, “The words of the LORD are pure words.” In Proverbs 30:5, Solomon tells us, “Every word of God is pure.” The standard dictionary used by the new version translators is “The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament,” by Gerhard Kittel. By their own admission, this is what they said about their own work, “Dictionaries are incontestably among the most imperfect of human products. Those who are driven by calling or circumstances to seek help in lexical works should realize how inadequate is that which even the best and most comprehensive of dictionaries can offer the user.”
In other words, there is a great contrast between the words God writes and the words men write! Men sheepishly admit to making errors and mistakes while God says His own Words are pure words. Men will write definitions to slant toward their ideology. However, the Words of the Lord are PURE words. We should let the Bible interpret the Bible. Let’s look at a clear example of what I am suggesting.
In Romans 10:16-17, the Bible says the “gospel… (is the) Word of God.” In II Corinthians 4:2-3, the Scriptures say, “Word of God…(is the) Gospel. So, Paul simply reverses it, says the same thing, but says the Gospel is the Word of God, then says the Word of God is the Gospel. In II Tim. 2:8-9, he says, “gospel…the Word of God.” So, using the Bible’s own built-in dictionary, we learn the Gospel is the Word of God.
Most of the new versions, like the NIV, the New Living Translation, the New Revised Standard Bible, and the Good News Bible remove “gospel” and replace it with “good news.” So,“gos” (or God) is watered down to “good,” and “spell” (meaning “word”) is watered down to “news.” Even in Fundamental, Bible-believing churches you hear preachers call the Gospel (God’s Word) - the “good - news.” But, they water it down to accommodate liberal Bible critics who do not believe the Bible is God’s Word, but just a “good message,” or “good news.”
Let’s stick with the King James Bible and let the Bible interpret the Bible! The Holy Spirit has so led the translators back in the early 1600’s so there is a built-in dictionary designed to help us understand the definition of difficult words. The English language was naturally going to grow and expand as time passed. The Lord knew this, so He built into the King James Bible, its own built-in dictionary. Try it for yourself! Read the Scriptures and just watch how definitions are right there, either in the verse you are reading, or in the paragraph where the verse you are reading is found.
Have a great day!
