From My Heart
On last Tuesday morning, I went up to Lighthouse Baptist Church, where Sterling Walsh is the Pastor. I could not help but see the great influence the Church of the Open Door has had on him. I teased him a little and told him it looked like Lighthouse Baptist was a second Open Door. One of his men, who often attends our church, laughed and said, “Yes, our Church is Open Door North.” It is always an honor to go preach for those who sat under your ministry.
I sat there once I finished preaching and thought about how excited the Apostle Paul must have been whenever he thought of Timothy, who went on from his years of travelling with Paul to pastor the Church at Ephesus. That led me to think about this series of sermons I have been preaching on revival, on Sunday evenings. In the early days of the New Testament Church, the disciples were all gathered in the Upper Room, when the Holy Ghost of God was poured out upon them. Over the last few weeks, I mentioned to you that what God did on the Day of Pentecost, is something the Lord has done many times and in many different ways, and in many different areas. Pentecost was the benchmark of how God has kept His Church alive and growing. Pentecost was how God started the Church, and it is how He has continued throughout the centuries to keep it alive.
When in the hands of men, the church has so often, almost died! And then, even sometimes when it seemed like the Church was on her last breath, the Lord would do again, this self-same thing and send the Holy Spirit to stir the Church back to life. And for months, even for years, and even for (in some cases) decades, the Church would once again thrive and experience a new period of life, and activity, and power.
It is my opinion, that today’s Church is once again in need of a revival that is akin to the one at Pentecost. I think if we do not see revival sweep our land, we are going to be in serious trouble! The wickedness of man is seemingly overtaking the righteous influence of today’s “lukewarm,” “Laodicea” Church. Are you praying for revival? If we do not see a revival in America, we are certainly headed for ruin. Let’s pray and ask the Lord to send revival to our hearts.
When Pentecost happened, the next few weeks and months tell us the Churches were built up and strengthened, “and they continued steadfastly in the Apostle’s doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread and in prayers.” (Acts 2:42). I want to see the Lord send revival to us and see this great moving of folks back to the Lord. Have a great day and pray for revival.
Pastor Norris
