From My Heart
I am away this Sunday, at my daughter’s in Orlando. I will be back in the pulpit next Sunday. I chose this time to go visit because I will get to see a few huge track-meets where my grand-daughter runs for her Christian school. I also will have the opportunity to play Arnold Palmer's golf course, Bay Hill Country Club. I jokingly call this trip my “mental health” vacation. But much truth is said in jest!
Our Spring Revival is going to be upon us before we know it! Dr. John Hamblin will be our Evangelist, and we are going to have Pastor Sterling Walsh come and sing for us. Dr. Hamblin has been in full-time evangelism his entire ministry. He travels extensively every week to preach in revival meetings and Bible conferences. His preaching is strong, powerful, and he is being greatly used of the Lord to stir churches to revival and to see folks saved. Please mark your calendar for May 23-26, and plan to be here for every service.
The Apostle Peter was one of the main characters in the New Testament. He was a member of the inner circle of the Disciples - along with James and John. We see him on just about every page of the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke). Peter is also very prominently shown in the Book of Acts and was one of the great influences and leaders in the early days of the church.
The Apostle Peter also wrote two Epistles that are included in our New Testament. In his first Epistle, in 1:11, there is a wonderful statement made under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, where he speaks about the Old Testament Scriptures and the Old Testament prophets searching for the Messiah. They knew the promise, and they knew the Messiah was coming to redeem fallen man.
In v. 11, Peter tells us the Old Testament Scriptures and the Old Testament prophets spoke about two matters: First, they spoke of the sufferings of Christ. And second, they spoke of the glory that should follow. In other words, Peter tells us the Old Testament prophets spoke about the first advent of our Lord, when the Lord Jesus was born in Bethlehem, some 2000 years ago. But they also spoke of His second coming - or the glory that would be after the suffering that happened to Him in His first advent.
Enoch, Moses, Samuel, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah and all the rest spoke about the first advent and the suffering that the Lord Jesus would have to face. Psalm 22, Isaiah 53 and many other Scriptures describe what the Savior would suffer. But these prophets and Scriptures also spoke of the second advent that is yet to come. We are today looking forward to the trumpet sounding and the Lord Jesus coming to take us home to be with Him. Once we are home in Heaven, we will see the saints of God around the throne (Rev. 4 and 5) shouting “Worthy is the Lamb.” And once the Battle of Armageddon is finished, we will watch the Lord Jesus go into the Temple in Jerusalem and rule and reign for 1000 years.
I am certainly looking forward to His coming again, and the glory that will follow. Have a wonderful day and I will see you next Sunday.
