From My Heart
I want to thank everyone who had a part in the Living Cross this last week. It was a wonderful week, and I think we are going to see some lasting fruit come from the decisions that were made. We had a great number of visitors come and folks from all over the area. Thank you for all the invitations you handed out and for spreading the word, which the Lord blessed so greatly.
When the Apostle Peter and Apostle John ran to the tomb on that first Easter Sunday morning, they found the tomb empty of the body of the Lord Jesus. Oh, His grave clothes were there, but He was not! Our Lord had risen from the dead! He said on many occasions that He would resurrect from the grave on the third day, and that is exactly what He did!
When Peter and John ran to the tomb, the Gospel of John 20:4 tells us that John outran Peter and got to the tomb first. John looked inside the tomb and saw the grave clothes but did not go inside. He waited until the elder Peter came and allowed him to enter first.
There is one little statement in John 20:8 that has always stood out to me when I read John’s account of the resurrection, and that statement is: “…and he saw, and believed.” The man being spoken of in this verse is the Apostle John who is also the author of this Gospel. And don’t forget that John stood at the foot of the Cross with Mary and watched as Jesus died on Calvary’s Cross.
John watched as His body was taken down, wrapped in the swaddling clothes, then carried around a few hundred yards to where there was a garden, and placed in a tomb for burial. So, when John saw with his own eyes that the Lord Jesus was not in the tomb, he then believed that Jesus was whom He said He was! He knew because of the resurrection that Jesus was the Son of God, the Savior of mankind.
It is so wonderful to know we serve a living Savior. He was seen alive by many witnesses after His resurrection. For 40 days, Jesus showed Himself alive to the Apostles on several occasions, and in one instance appeared to over 500 people at one time (I Cor. 15:5-7). If you were taken to court for committing a specific crime and over 500 people showed up to say you did not commit that crime because they saw you that night, there is not a judge anywhere who would declare you guilty.
The greatest event the world has ever known is the resurrection of Jesus from the grave! Here we are today, 2000 years later, still celebrating and honoring this great event of Jesus Christ victorious over sin and the grave! I trust you will have a wonderful day, as His victory is your victory.
