From My Heart
Praise the Lord for a wonderful Spring Revival! The Lord surely blessed our church this last week! I am so thankful Dr. Hamblin could come to preach for us! He is being greatly used of the Lord as a full-time evangelist, and I am so glad he could come to be with us.
Recently, I was reading Romans 11:31-35, and my heart was stirred to read some of the wonderful things the Apostle Paul said about our great God. All of us human beings are limited - but God Almighty has no limitations. We are fallible but God Almighty is infallible. We have our faults, but God Almighty has no faults. The depths of His wisdom and knowledge cannot be measured. If we were to give God Almighty an IQ test, there would be no way to measure His understanding.
In verse 34, Paul asks the question, “…who can be His counsellor?” Most of us have various and sundry issues that come up as we go through life and often we need to go speak with someone about our issues. Folks will say to me, “Pastor, I need your advice on a matter.” Even the wise King Solomon said there is wisdom in counsel.
But, who among us can give God advice? I have gone to my wife, my preacher friends, to my dad, to my pastoral staff to ask their advice on certain issues that have come up through the years. And even more importantly, I have many times gone to the Lord in prayer and sought His wisdom and counsel. But there is never anyone who is qualified to give God advice! I have often gone to the Lord needing advice and help, but not one time has the Lord ever come to me looking for advice or help. “Who can be His counselor?”
And the wonderful thing about this is how we can know God and have a relationship with Him as we live our lives. How could anyone measure God’s wisdom or His knowledge? How could any of us dare to give God advice on any issue? God is so far beyond us, and so much greater than any of us…but He has made a way for us to know Him and have a personal walk of fellowship with Him.
In college, I took an English Literature class, and we studied Edith Hamilton’s Mythology. The one thing I saw in that class was how the Greek and Roman gods were manufactured to instill fear and intimidation in people. The gods they created in their own minds were mean, cruel, untrustworthy, and even deceitful. But the God of the Bible is loving, kind, generous, and giving! Jehovah God does not scare us away, but He calls out for us to come to Him and trust Him with all our needs.
Oh, that we would simply trust the Lord! He is the great sovereign God of the universe - and we can trust Him in all things.
