From My Heart
Living Cross is just two weeks away! We need to spread the word, invite folks, and do everything we can to get the program out in the community. It has been a couple of years since we were able to have the Living Cross, so we need to talk it up and do what we can to make sure everyone knows we are on for this year. I am excited about this year’s program, because the drama is brand spanking new! Pray for the Lord to use the program for His honor and glory, and for many folks to trust the Lord as their Savior.
There is a fine line that separates between church and political involvement. If you remember when the Persian king Nehemiah to take a crew back to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls of the city, the workers faced a great deal of push-back. Two men Sanballat and Tobiah, led the opposition against Nehemiah. The Jews would work all day and then these trouble-makers would show up and mock them and laugh at them. As progress was beginning to take place, the opposition they faced became even more intense. So, they decided to place some guards to watch for their enemies to attack, and when they saw them coming, they would blow their trumpets to warn the workers building the walls.
When they heard the trumpets, they would lay down their trowels and pick up their swords and brace for battle! Once they had fought off the enemy, they would lay down the sword and take up their tools to get back to work! You see, they were there to rebuild walls! They were sent from Persia to Jerusalem to build, not to fight those who did not want those walls rebuilt. But, if all they were going to do was fight the political leaders of the day, the walls (which was their primary job) would not get built.
Today, we have a job we need to do: win souls to Christ! Of course, there are those who oppose us and are seemingly always trying to stop or hinder our progress. I do not think we should lay down the trowel and take up the sword and spend our every waking moment fighting the modern day Sanballats and Tobiahs. Of course, there are times when we have to pick up the sword! I sometimes will ask you to call down to Annapolis or call down to D.C. to fight against those things which would hinder our cause for the Lord Jesus. But, let’s not forget, our job is to “build the walls,” to win souls to Christ.
This is why I will announce sometimes that we have a guest in the service, and I want you to meet them because we are trying to get them elected to be trumpet blowers to warn us of what the enemy is up to! Have a great day!
